1830 — The roots of a family estate
At 23 years old, Claude Bureau (born 1807) laid the foundation by planting 2 hectares of vines in Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil. At a time when mixed farming predominated (fruit, asparagus, cereals), this initiative marked the beginning of a great family adventure dedicated to the land.
1870 — Bold steps into export
Louis Bureau (born 1841), Claude's son, innovated by exporting his wines in barrels down the Loire River all the way to Nantes. A decisive first step toward renown, reflecting the family's pioneering spirit.
1912 — Specialization in winemaking
Robert Bureau (born 1875), grandson of the founder, made a strong choice: he abandoned other crops to focus exclusively on the vineyard, expanding the estate to 10 hectares—a major milestone toward winemaking excellence.
1952 — Commercial growth & national reach
Claude Bureau (born 1929), Robert's son, brought the estate into the spotlight: expansion of the vineyard to 25 hectares with a strong footing in the Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil AOC, participation in the Paris International Agricultural Show, and the development of a national network. Raising the appellation's profile far beyond its native region.
1989 — Modernization and handover
Éric and Monique Bureau took over the reins from Claude around two major priorities: expanding the vineyard and modernizing the facilities (buildings and winemaking equipment). Preserving family expertise while addressing contemporary challenges.
2005 to present — A new era (Ludovic & Stéphane Bureau, the sons)
The arrival of the 5th generation brought a fresh strategic momentum: technical innovation through sustainable viticulture and precision winemaking. Growth through expansion into international markets, wine tourism, and strengthening the estate with the acquisition of Domaine Laurent Mabileau in 2025. A perfect balance between tradition and modernity to carry the estate into the future. Currently farming 75 hectares of vines.

- 1. Deep local roots: Nearly 200 years of passion and an unbroken connection to the terroirs of Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil, Bourgueil, and Chinon.
- 2. A pioneering spirit: From exporting via traditional flat-bottomed boats (*gabares*) on the Loire to modernizing our cellars, we have always known how to innovate to make our wines shine.
- 3. Transmission & Continuity: 5 generations united by a respect for the land and an unwavering pursuit of winemaking excellence.
- 4. Environmental commitment: For over 25 years, we have practiced sustainable viticulture. This approach was recognized in 2020 with the HVE (High Environmental Value) certification, reflecting our respect for the vines and the ecosystem.
